Maryland Sales Tax Exemption Certificates for Non-Profits

The Maryland sales and use tax exemption certificate issued to Non-Profit organizations may expire on September 30, 2012. The Maryland sales and use tax exemption certificates are printed on white paper with purple ink and contain an expiration date of September 30, 2012 in the top right corner of the certificate below the issue date.

We recommend that you review your Non-Profit organization’s files and determine if you have a Maryland exemption certificate that will expire on September 30, 2012.

If the exemption certificate expires on September 30, 2012, your organization must file a renewal application with the State of Maryland.  Additional information on requesting and filing the renewal application can be found on the Comptroller of Maryland’s website at:

Your organization’s new exemption certificate should be provided to vendors that supply taxable goods and services so that your organization can continue to make tax-free purchases.
