KatzAbosch Around Town June 30, 2014 On Thursday, June 5th, KatzAbosch’s Tim Redmond, CPA, Bob Kollra, CPA, PFS, Amanda Pippin, Parina Patel, and Matt Smiler, ChFC all participated in Junior Acheivement’s Biz-Town – Take a Day to Help Kids w/ Financial Literacy. Along with volunteers from ADP and OneMain Financial, our team worked with 80 fifth graders from Hampstead Hill Academy (offering PreK-8th grade) in Baltimore, MD JA’s Biztown will serve almost 7K kids in central Maryland during the 2014 school year and will serve a total of almost 40K kids across all their programs for the 2014 school year. Kids were split up into teams of 4-6 among 14 businesses (including realty companies, a bank, an investment firm, an insurance agency, city hall, utilities, etc.). Each kid was assigned a job and teams worked together to take out a loan, sell products, manage payroll and accounts payable, and perform other business functions that adults do every day. Each kid also got a break where they could use their hard earned money to buy various products for sale at each business. Almost all of them said that by the end of the day they were very tired! Sounds like they received a taste of what tax season is like!
