All DC Employers Must File a Sales Tax Report By 10/20/2013

Commencing last year, the District of Columbia (DC) requires all DC employers to register for sales/use tax and file annual use tax forms.  For the 12-month period ending September 30 2013, all employers required to file a DC withholding tax return and who are not required to collect sales tax, must file an annual use tax return on or before October 20 each year, and remit any use tax due with the return.  This requirement only applies to businesses with DC payroll withholding accounts.  Merely having employees working in DC, with no DC payroll withholding, are not subject to this requirement.

The KatzAbosch SALT team has specialists that assist businesses with government tax compliance such as this DC requirement.  If you need help with registering for sales/use tax and preparing the tax forms please let us know.  We advise businesses to take action now as the registration process can delay compliance.

Please contact the KatzAbosch State and Local Tax (SALT) Group if you have any questions regarding any SALT issues or would like a review of your state tax compliance opportunities.  Phone: 410-828-2727, or email:
