Baltimore, MD — Regional accounting and consulting firm KatzAbosch announced the retirement of Alfred A. Windeshiem, CPA, and N. Mark Freedman, CPA, two senior Shareholders with the firm.
Effective January 1, 2009, Windesheim and Freedman will be retiring from their active roles as Shareholders with KatzAbosch. They both will continue supporting KatzAbosch’s staff and clients in an Of Counsel role with the firm.
“It is with a mixture of happiness and sadness that we announce the retirements of Al and Mark,” said Alvin Katz, President and CEO of KatzAbosch. “They both will be sorely missed as they have played an integral role in the success of our firm over the past 35 years and we are thankful they will continue to provide their expertise and guidance in an Of Counsel role. We wish Al and Mark and their families many years of health, success and luck as they move into this next phase of their lives.”
Windesheim joined KatzAbosch in 1973 and became a shareholder in 1975. Over the past 35 years, Windsheim has brought not only leadership to the firm, specializing in income tax, estate and gift tax, valuation of closely-held businesses, and tax planning, but also as a personal and business advisor to the firm’s staff and clients. Windesheim plans to spend more time with his many interests.
“It has been a great pleasure to have participated in the success of KatzAbosch as it grew into one of the leading certified public accounting and consulting firms in the mid- Atlantic and I take much pride in being a part of these great accomplishments,” said Alfred Windesheim, Shareholder and Certified Public Accountant with KatzAbosch. Freedman joined KatzAbosch in 1974 and became a shareholder in 1977. During the 34 years he has been with the firm, Mark also has provided unique direction to the firm’s clients in both business and personal matters. His strong relationships with clients enabled him to provide expert direction when working through business, tax and planning issues. Mark relocated to Scottsdale, Arizona where he will continue his work for a number of clients in Arizona as well as spend more time with his family.
“It’s been an honor to have worked so closely with my clients and fellow colleagues at KatzAbosch,” said Mark Freedman, Shareholder and Certified Public Accountant with KatzAbosch. “Through their guidance and unwavering support, I am excited to begin this new chapter of my life while still having the pleasure of working with each of them in an Of Counsel role with the firm.”
Windesheim and Freedman have both been deeply involved in the community volunteering their knowledge and expertise in numerous senior leadership roles. During their time at KatzAbosch, Windesheim has been involved with the Baltimore County Chamber of Commerce, Stevenson University (formerly Villa Julie College), Sheppard Pratt Health System, Towson Development Corporation and others. Additionally, Freedman has lent his expertise to Jewish Vocational Services, Merrick School of Business at the University of Baltimore, the University of Baltimore Education Foundation and more.

Timonium, MD — Regional accounting and consulting firm Katz, Abosch, Windesheim, Gershman & Freedman, P.A. (KAWG&F) today announced that Jane M. Brewer, Co- Chair of the Tax Department, has been named a 2008 SmartCPA by SmartCEO Magazine.
Previously honored as a SmartCPA in 2006, Brewer has again been recognized for her leadership, accomplishments, expertise, innovation and relationship development as a top certified public accountant (CPA) in the Baltimore business community.
“It is an honor to be included among such a distinguished group of CPAs who have dedicated so much of themselves to their profession,” said Jane M. Brewer, Co-Chair of the Tax Department for KAWG&F. “It is especially fulfilling to be recognized for the work that I love to do and I am looking forward to continuing my personal and professional involvement in the business and civic communities.”
Brewer has more than 25 years of experience as a CPA and specializes in taxation and planning for partnership and limited liability companies, real estate, multi-state, not-for-profit organizations, individuals and small businesses.
Brewer is a dedicated member of several organizations including the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the Maryland Association of Certified Public Accountants and served as the former Chair of the State Tax Committee, the Maryland Commission on Aging and served as Commissioner from 2006-2008, the Commercial Real Estate Women (Crew) Baltimore chapter, the National Association of Women Business Owners (NAWBO) and served as Past-President, the Rotary Club of Towsontowne as a Charter Member and served as Past-President, and the Women Investors in Real Estate (WIRE).
Brewer has been the recipient of many distinguished honors throughout her professional career, including the Woman in Business Champion by the Small Business Administration in 2006, the YWCA Leadership Award in 2004, the Top 100 Women in Maryland Circle of Excellence by The Daily Record in 1997, 1999 and 2002, the Woman of the Year by the National Association of Women Business Owners (NAWBO) in 2001, the Accountant Advocate of the Year by the State of Maryland Small Business Administration in 1997, and the Rotarian of the Year by the Rotary Club of Towsontowne from 1990-1991.
Brewer is a graduate of the University of Baltimore with a B.S. and M.S. in Taxation.
